With the rapid industrial and economic growth of North Carolina, considerable interest has developed as to the possibility of using some of the local high-grade quartz sands in the manufacture of glass or other specialized products. This report is a general appraisal of these sands as potential raw materials for the manufacture of glass or other high-silica products and presents data concerning their distribution, geologic occurrence, mineralogy, and amenability to beneficiation.
