Mineral resources of the Greenville 1 degree by 2 degree, SC, GA and NC, were assessed between 1984 and 1990 under the Conterminous United States Mineral Assessment Program of the USGS. this report is an assessment of the kyanite, silimanite, and andalusite resources in the Greenville quadrangle and is based heavily on the geology as mapped by Nelson and others (1989). These minerals belong to an aluminosilicate group of minerals that also includes mullite, topaz and dumortierite.
